The 500-hours yoga teacher training at Nydum is a comprehensive advanced-level program certified by Yoga Alliance. It combines foundational and advanced studies to support long-term professional development, with a strong emphasis on safe methodology, applied anatomy, and embodied teaching. This 500 hours yoga teacher training is an advanced and immersive program designed for long-term development.

Our 500-hour YTT combines the foundational 200-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa training with the advanced 300-hour YTT. By completing both, either consecutively or over time, you meet the full certification requirements recognized by Yoga Alliance.

  • Start with the 200hr YTT to build a strong foundation in Ashtanga Vinyasa style, including key postures, sequencing, philosophy, and teaching techniques.

  • Continue with the 300hr YTT to deepen your practice and teaching skills, with more advanced techniques, anatomy, adjustments, pranayama, and meditation.

Whether you're enrolling in both courses together or completing your 300hr after already having a 200hr certificate, this combined pathway equips you with the skills, confidence, and international certification to teach at a professional and advanced level. This certification meets the international standards required for professional teaching.

500-hour course content

Philosophy

The Sutras of Patanjali describe the theory and practice behind Yoga, addressing its living principles and the nature of the mind. While asana has become the most widely known aspect, the philosophical foundations remain the true essence of the practice.

You will learn:

  • Evolution of Yoga: Trace its origins from ancient roots to modern expressions. Explore how this timeless discipline has evolved across centuries while retaining its transformative purpose and relevance.

  • Yoga in Indian Philosophy: Examine its foundational role within the broader tradition of Indian philosophy. Study the classical teachings of the Yoga Sutras and the enduring wisdom of Patanjali, gaining insight into the framework that continues to guide practice today.

  • Integration of Ashtanga Yoga: Learn to embody the holistic path of Ashtanga by integrating its eight limbs into both your physical practice and daily life. This approach encourages balance, discipline, and mindful living beyond the mat.

  • Philosophical Depth: Engage with the core principles that underpin the practice. This section deepens your understanding of consciousness, suffering, self-inquiry, and liberation, providing a strong foundation that informs both practice and teaching.

  • Practical Application: Develop the ability to apply these principles in contemporary contexts. Instruction focuses on translating theory into lived experience, supporting personal growth, reflective awareness, and professional responsibility.

  • Certification and Recognition: Upon completion, receive a Yoga Alliance–recognized certification that validates your training and commitment.

Anatomy & Alignment

We want you to go beyond memorising the crazy names of body parts, the focus is for you to understand the musculoskeletal system and biomechanics so you can adapt your classes according to your student’s needs.

You will learn:

  • Understanding Vulnerable Poses: Identify postures that present a higher potential for strain or injury. This section emphasizes risk awareness, anatomical reasoning, and evidence-informed strategies for safe modification, alignment, and repositioning to support long-term practice integrity.

  • Exploring Movement Planes: Develop a foundational understanding of biomechanics as it applies to practice. Study planes of movement and kinetic relationships within the body to better understand how joints, muscles, and connective tissues work together during movement and load-bearing postures.

  • Unveiling Fascial Anatomy: Examine the role of fascia and fascial planes in movement, stability, and postural organization. This module draws on the principles outlined in Anatomy Trains by Thomas Myers, exploring their relevance to asana, sequencing, and functional integration.

  • Breath Anatomy: Study the anatomical structures involved in respiration, including the diaphragm, rib cage, spine, and accessory muscles. This section explores how breath mechanics influence physical performance, nervous system regulation, and mental clarity within the practice.

  • Prioritizing Safety: Learn evidence-informed approaches to injury prevention, with attention to common contraindications and considerations for different populations. Emphasis is placed on creating safe, adaptable, and inclusive environments that respect individual anatomical variability and experience.

  • Unlocking Sanskrit: Begin foundational study of Sanskrit through the memorization and correct pronunciation of key postural names from the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. This supports clearer communication, honors traditional lineage, and strengthens your connection to the practice’s classical roots.

Teaching methodology

This module will prepare you to teach a 90 minute Yoga class to your peer group which includes Asana, meditation, and pranayama. As well as teaching Ashtanga primary series in a competent way.

You will learn:

  • Effective Voice Utilization: Learn to use your voice with clarity and intention, guiding the energy of your class and creating a focused, engaging experience for your students.

  • Articulate Instruction: Develop clear and direct communication, using precise cues to guide students through their practice with confidence and accuracy.

  • Asana Alignment: Gain confidence in teaching asana with correct alignment, offering practical reminders that support safe and effective movement.

  • Observational Skills: Refine your ability to observe different bodies, adapting your cues and adjustments to meet individual needs.

  • Ashtanga vs. Vinyasa: Explore the differences between Ashtanga and Vinyasa style, including sequencing, pacing, and the role of breath-led movement.

  • Yogic Philosophy Infusion: Learn how to bring philosophical concepts into your classes in a natural and relevant way, creating more meaningful and grounded sessions.

  • Anatomical Knowledge Integration: Apply anatomical understanding to your teaching, sequencing, and cuing, helping students move with greater awareness and control.
Whole-Body Sequencing: Develop the ability to create balanced sequences that work the entire body, supporting strength, flexibility, and overall flow

Adjustments

One of our favourite modules is Adjustments. Once we have spent time to understand the anatomy and alignment of the postures, we take some time to learn how to touch, where to apply pressure and how to assist and support our students to go further in their own practice.

You will learn:

  • Establishing Consent: Learn how to approach students with clarity and respect, ensuring boundaries and comfort are always honored.

  • Definition and Usage: Understand what adjustments are and when to apply them effectively to support alignment, deepen postures, and guide safely.

  • Recognizing Needs: Develop the ability to recognize when a student may require assistance to advance in their practice, and learn the best approaches to offer support, encouragement, and guidance.

  • Working with Variations: Build the skills to work with different bodies, adapting your approach to suit a range of abilities and experience levels.

  • Sensitivity to Styles: Understand how to adjust across different styles, recognizing the specific demands and alignment principles of each practice, from Hatha to more dynamic approaches.

  • Promoting Inclusivity: Create a safe and inclusive environment where everyone feels respected, supported, and welcome.

  • Commitment to Growth: Develop a mindset of continuous learning, refining your skills through practice, feedback, and ongoing reflection.

You can expect:

  • Ashtanga Yoga Immersion: Immerse yourself in traditional Ashtanga Yoga, focusing on alignment, breath, and mindful movement to cultivate strength, flexibility, and inner harmony through four weekly sessions.

  • Self-Practice Development: Build confidence and skills over two weeks to establish a personalized self-practice, receiving guidance and support tailored to your unique needs and goals.

  • Dynamic Vinyasa Flows: Enhance your practice with two weekly Vinyasa flow classes featuring creative sequences and advanced poses, including opportunities to challenge yourself with peak postures.

  • Pranayama & Meditation: Cultivate a deep connection to breath and mindfulness through dedicated pranayama and daily meditation sessions, exploring various techniques for physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

  • Reflection & Integration: Reflect on your practice and life experiences through the program
