Frequently Asked

Questions…

-How long does it take to train as a yoga teacher?

To be able to acquire a yoga certification, and start your yoga career, the “first” level it takes 200 hours. Some of the trainings they do it over weekends during few months, or maybe a weekend per moths over 1 year. Some schools like ours we do it over the course of 4 weeks, that represents 50 hours of training per week (we train 6 days of the week with one day off in between to rest). Be careful with schools that they promise less time than 4 weeks, either because that means you will be doing more than 50 hours per week or they are giving you less hours than 200, that are the minimum required.

-Is it worth it to do yoga teacher training?

To be worth will be depending on what are you looking for, make sure that you choose a school that prepares you well to guide a group of people doing yoga, that gives you a good level with enough experience to start teaching after the training. Check on the line of the school and ask them all the questions you have before booking, to make sure this is the right training for you. There are plenty of schools, so check the hours they give, the teachers, the style of yoga. Make sure that the place you book is the best for what you are looking for.

-What qualifications do I need to be a yoga teacher?

This might depend on each country, but there is an organization, Yoga Alliance, that checks the curriculum of each school, this certification is well known in the Yoga industry. The first level is the 200 hour yoga teacher training course certification, and the second the 300 hour teacher training course, you can’t do a 300 hour yoga teacher training course without first doing a 200 hour yoga teacher training course. If you do both then you have the 500 hour course certification. You can do the un the same style or do one in one style, and choose a different one for the second, you will just need to check in each school, what are they requiring to sign up for the courses.

-Can a beginner do yoga teacher training?

Probably they can find some schools where they are accepted (we don’t) we suggest you that if you want to take a Yoga teacher training course, that you prepare yourself to have a good level, a good amount of time of practice experience will be the best way to make your time and money worth it. We recommend that you have an intermediate or an advanced practice, so you learn all the content we have to offer.

-Will I be able to teach Vinyasa Flow Yoga after the 200 hour yoga teacher training course?

Yes! To be clear you will practice Ashtanga more than Vinyasa in the morning practice (you will still practice Vinyasa classes two days per week) and Ashtanga is used as a basis for the anatomy and alignment classes however in the teaching methodology module you will be given the option to teach either your own Vinyasa flow yoga class or a set Vinyasa flow yoga class. All skills required to teach Vinyasa will be covered including a class on general asana alignment and some postures that do not appear in the primary series. All the information and practice gained with Ashtanga will provide an excellent basis to explore the style. A module part will be destined to pranayama and meditation.

-Will I be able to teach Ashtanga Yoga after the 200 hour yoga teacher training course?

Yes! You will be able to be teaching a shortened Ashtanga primary series class which follows the same order as the primary series with the main fundamental postures and sections, with pranayama and meditation.

-Who is your course registered with?

Our courses are registered with the Yoga Alliance which is the most recognized around the world yoga teacher registry. Once you have completed all the hours of the course and completed the assessments you will be given a certification which will allow you to register as a yoga teacher with the Yoga Alliance organization if you wish.

-Are there shops and bars nearby the school?

We are in a very quiet area. The closest shop and restaurants are a 30 minute walk away on the beach (they might be closed in winter) and the nearest proper town a 15 minute drive or 1 hour walk away. Some students love to stay in the countryside all month however other students prefer the freedom of renting a car so they are able to explore or pop out when they need to. This is also quite a cost effective option considering the cost of taxis in the area is quite high.

-Do I need to bring my own sheets and towels?

All sheets and towels are provided for. We support and make your travel journey easier, we provide all you might need for your stay with us. We want to make your life easier.

-Can I do my washing at the school?

Yes we have a washing machine here for students to use and drying racks. We do ask for a suggested donation of 1 euro per load for the washing machine so that small loads are avoided and students are encouraged to share loads.

-Are there any exams at the end of the course?

There are assessments at the end of the courses. For the 200hr yoga teacher training course you will be required to teach a 1 hour class with the style of your choice (ashtanga or vinyasa) with 10 minutes pranayama or meditation, complete an anatomy and alignment paper and a short philosophy essay. We assess everyone individually, we take into consideration the effort and dedication gone into the process, and the departure level.

-How much experience do I need to register for a teacher training course?

This can vary massively and depends on what kind of experience you mean. Some people come to us with an established meditation practice and not much asana (posture) experience, others may have more asana experience but have never meditated. We assess everyone’s application individually and don’t consider headstand a prerequisite of a teacher training :)

Our day schedule is pack with classes full of knowledge, so we want to make sure you have the level to enjoy this life experience.

-Do you have any required reading before the course?

For the 300 hour yoga teacher training course there is a distance learning module which will be sent to students after their application is confirmed. For the 200 hour yoga teacher training course students all the hours are covered in the classroom however we do recommend ‘Ashtanga Yoga’ by Gregor Maehle to help you get a grip of the material before you arrive. This has the order of the primary series, anatomical information and a commentary on The Yoga Sutras. For more suggested reading please get in touch.

-Are there non-residential options?

Yes. If you live in the area we are happy to consider a non-residential place for you. Meals would still be included as for us this is an important part of the group experience so we spend most of the day together.

-Is there wifi?

Yes. There is wifi in the main section of the house if you need to do things online. If it is important for you to have wifi in your bedroom let us know and we will try to position you in the right place.

-Due to Covid-19 are you going to do the courses online?

No, we know that this new situation going on around the world is making us all replan the way of doing things, but we are going to stay with in person format. We believe in our teacher training being the best format to have a wonderful experience, with days packed with yoga classes and lessons to have a yogic life during a month. We think the online trainings lack on support, and a difficult way to correct the student. We rather wait than to do the online version of our course.
